I have been in Grad school for well over a year now and I just don't have the time to dedicate to my Movie hobby or anything that resembles a life worth blogging about! The last movie I saw at home via NETFLIX was The King's Speech, to which my reaction was..."Where the OTs at?" It was a great movie and totally did a phenomenal job glorifying Speech Pathologist. So I ask this, "Does anyone know what an Occupational Therapist is?"...::Crickets:: The truth is unless you personally had to go to one, or have been sequestered by me with a full definition starting from the beginning of time to my current Master's Project, your answer is probably, "NO"! Which is why I say to my OTs out there, "I think SPs are up to something here..lets make a movie about our fantastic profession as well!!" :) All in in all, if you haven't seen the movie, you should. It's based on the true story of King Edward VIII and his struggle to over come his speech impediment. http://www.kingsspeech.com/ Great Job Speech! :)

So, for my upcoming movies I'm hoping to go see Paranormal Activity 3 and Breaking Dawn. Anyone have any thoughts on Like Crazy??

Sex and the City 2 and a French disappointment:

Sex and the City 2

SATC fans this one is for you! Despite the horror reviews given to Sex and the City 2, I have to say I really enjoyed it! I laughed out loud, clapped my hands and threw my head back in response to the humor and outrageousness that only SATC could bring to the big screen. To be honest, I went there expecting not to like it. Although I am a huge SATC fan, I really hated these ads…

I just felt they were overly air brushed and cheesy. These ads did not do the movie justice. Yes, the movie was over the top, rich and glamorous but the whole “New Middle East experience” was to die for and the ads should have played more on that.

I don’t believe in spoilers, so I won’t give too much away. Samantha manages to work a public relations deal to get herself and the girls an all expense paid trip to Abu Dhabi. What starts out to be the trip of a life time, quickly turns sour when Samantha finds that public displays of kissing or sex are forbidden. Miranda turns out to be the fun and exciting one in the movie for a change, which was refreshing. She quits her job and invests her energy in exploring the Abu Dhabi culture. Charlotte finds herself relieved from her mommy duties, as Carrie is looking for a cure for what she fears will be the end of her and Mr. Big’s exciting Marriage. In her search to find that sparkle in her life that once made her feel alive she runs into an old flame, AIDAN!!! <3

OMG he is just Gorgeous!!!!

What happens next? You have to watch to find out, but I promise you, if you’re a fan you will not be disappointed. The only part of the movie which was horrible was the Karaoke scene but I definitely recommend this one!

As for myself I realized it’s not a boyfriend I need but an Indian butler like Guarau..::wink, wink::

Lol…here are some pics of Zoe, Jona and I having our Pink Punk Cosmos before the SATC movie ^_^

Pink Punk

Shaken not stirred

Yes, that is cotton candy

My sister Zoe and I

"Tasty" by bff Jona

A French Disappointment

As promised, I went to Park Slope with my friend Jona a little over a week ago to Café Moutarde, to check out one of the locations in which Julie/ Julia was filmed, and it was closed!!!! It turns out that it’s under going renovations, which was very upsetting for me for a couple of reasons: 1) We were hungry and 2) this means the inside will now look different to when the movie was filmed :( I will give it another shot soon but I have to call and find out when they plan on reopening. So here are some pictures of my French disappointment:

Closed :(

Locked Doors

"Apollo Creed meets the Italian Stallion, Sounds like a damn monster movie." There are 72 steps to be exact, they can be seen in Rocky and its sequels II, III, IV and Rocky Balboa. The steps actually lead to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Of course when I got there I ran up the steps and it's not as difficult as one may have imagined. I watched children and older folks run up the steps as well =) It was a snowy day but it was beautiful all the same.

The steps

Rocky's Foot steps when you reach the top

In the foot steps of a Champ! ;)

"Adrian"

Victory is mine!

hahaha...that was a fun movie site too visit!!

Next I'm planning on going to the cafe in Carol Gardens where Julie/ Julia was filmed. The food was fantastic and I would definitely go back for those buffalo wings!

Always a good time when I'm out with Dee and Phyllis <3

This was pretty cool, they had the clothes that Kristy Swanson (Vanessa) wore in the film and a few pictures of the movie.

Inspired

I apologize about not blogging recently; I have been super busy with "life responsibilities"! This movie lover has so many things to keep on top of, she just hasn’t found the time to relax and watch some flicks. Which leads me straight to the point of this blog.

I recently Netflixed My Sister’s Keeper, which is a must if you have not yet seen it! Sometimes, I try to stay away from a movie that will evidently make me cry but this movie was more than a tear jerker, it was inspiring. Sometimes, in our busy lives we are so busy “doing” that we don’t step back and appreciate what we done. Sometimes we need a reminder that while we are living our lives one day at a time, that “time” is limited. I’m not trying to sound pessimistic but it is a reality for all of us. Death and taxes, right? After I watched this movie, which is about a teenage girl who is dying of cancer, I was inspired not only to live but to live it fully. The story is a good one, heartfelt and written beautifully!

After I watched My sister’s Keeper I watched The Lovely Bones, without going into great detail about it, it was everything you would expected from a Peter Jackson’s film, thrilling, lavish cinematography and a touching story. This movie was about a young girl whose life was cut short by a sick, creepy, murder. What I loved about this movie was the seeing how the story develops after her death. How differently people deal with death and I loved the scenes of Susie’s after life. I always enjoy seeing how people invision the idea of heaven.

Watching both these movies within a week’s time struck a chord in me. I feel as if I’m always working towards a milestone or chapter in my life when I will finally feel fulfilled and truly happy, that I let so much of life pass me by trying to get there. I want to be happy in every moment, even in my transitional, grey ones. So instead of always talking about wanting to learn to play guitar, I finally signed up for it and took my first class last week. I learned to crochet this month and finished a scarf yesterday. Although this may seem like nothing to some people, it’s exactly what I have always wanted to do. Now I have too many hobbies to keep up with! LOL but I’m proud of myself, and while I’m on this road to a more fulfilling everyday life, I’m looking to volunteer more often with NYCares.org. I loved the few projects I picked up last year and would love to do some more.

So my message to you today is: Go out and get inspired! Do that thing you always wanted to do and become a better version of you! I'm sure there are tons of wonderful things inside you just dying to come out, let that bottled up creativity find its place in the world. As long as you're alive...it's never too late.

The scare was there to stay…

Scaredy cat doesn’t begin to cover it! So, last night my bother-in-law, once again, brought over a scary movie to watch. Even though I told him I refused to watch Paranormal Activity, it made no difference. There I was against my own good reasoning enduring, what I feel, is plain human torture! If you haven’t seen this movie, I won’t ruin it for you. It’s not a scary movie in the sense that it has all those suspenseful scenes; it has everything to do with messing with your head. The whole idea of the unseen is sometimes harder to deal with than seeing it right in front of you. It definitely plays on all those things that happen to you at night that you just brush off by saying, “Oh, it was just the wind”…or was it? The fear of the progression of those little things is frightening, “what if my hand hangs of the bed… will something pull on it?” That idea of being pulled off my bed by an unseen entity, by any of my extremities, was all I needed to keep me up at night. We later attempted to watch Tim Burrton’s 9 but it was no use, the scare was there to stay! It was 4 in the morning and there I was lamp on, door open (so my dog could sense the evil being and I could jump in to prayer action before it was too late) and the TV on, watching The Hills and I still bugged out. “What if…?” By the way, I chickened out in the end of the movie and physically stopped watching it, but I remained in the room crocheting as the movie was still playing. I would look up now and then but I was really too Chicken to keep watching it. So if you are excited by any of this, go ahead and rent it. Come back and let me know how you slept or if you slept at all!

www.paranormalactivity-movie.com/trailer.html

A world to fear, a world to love:

Two hours of my life that I will never get back:

First of all, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I’m very excited to start a new year and especially love that feeling of being able to start over on a clean slate. I have a few New Year resolutions in mind and one pertaining to my blog. I would like to keep a list of ALL the movies I watch this year, when I watched it and how long the movie was. I want to calculate exactly how many movies I watch in a year. I don’t have a number I want to hit, just curious to see how much time I spend watching movies. The reason this came to mind is because every time I watch a movie I really did not like I always say, “two hours of my life that I will never get back!” Which left me wondering, “How many hours of my life do I spend watching movies????” Too many, I’m sure. In any case, I’m going to find a way to keep this list on my blog and hope that I can keep it up all year.

A world to fear:

This one here is for my one and only brother-in-law… who insists that I watch horror flicks (including some B rated movies at times). Which I can tell you right now, I usually do not enjoy… but as usual, I can be a masochist and watch a scary movie anyway. Two nights ago I wanted to watch The Orphan, which I still have not seen and been wanting to see since it was in the theater, when along came the bother, I mean Brother-in-law and suggests that we watch Drag Me to Hell instead.

I cannot say that is was scary and kept me up at night but it was suspenseful and made me scream a good one the middle of it. I don’t know what you know of Gypsies but BEWARE!! OK, I guess I can’t speak for all gypsies, but I have yet to have a positive experience with one and this was no exception. The movie is a about a loan officer named Alison(Christine Brown) who, in a selfish act, denies a gypsy a chance at keeping her home by not approving a loan. In return, the Gypsy puts a curse on her, which is followed by a chain of creepy events in which she is haunted by evil spirits. Some of the scenes were ridiculous and more funny than scary. Director Sam Raimi told this story through interesting camera shots and his unique filming style and surely succeeded at grossing me out! If nothing else, he leaves you with a moral to the story: "If you can help someone in need, do it! Especially if it’s some weird-old-creepy-looking gypsy lady!!"

I’m not sure that I would recommend this one. It wasn’t horrible but these kinds of scary movies leave me disappointed. This is definitely not The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which I still find to be one of the scariest films I have ever seen!

A World to love:

I finally got the chance to see Avatar which I absolutely loved! I loved the storyline and most of all the beautiful world of Pandora created by James Cameron, who interestingly enough had written this story many years ago. He had to literally wait for technology to catch up with his vision, so that he could create this world he had seen in his mind. Around the year 2005 and he finally felt ready to start and began his journey to tell us of a world unlike you and I have ever seen but would certainly love. Visually it was stimulating and wondrous!

Avatar is a movie about a paraplegic marine veteran, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), who goes on a mission to the world of Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi people. The humans leading this mission want to remove the Na’vi humanoids from this land that is rich in valuable material. Lead by their greed, they succeed in destroying the peaceful land and culture of the Na’vi. The humans were able to synthetically make a Na’vi that could be linked and controlled by the human mind. This enables Jake to be able to walk again as he is linked to this his very own Avatar. He is sent out to a world that inhabits the most dangerous and unique creatures known to humans. The more he interacts with the native tribe and learns their ways, the more he falls in love with their culture and the lovely Neytiri. Ultimately, he has to choose between completing his mission lead by the greedy and heartless humans or betraying his own kind and protect the planet and the people of Pandora.

I highly recommend this film to all those fantasy lovers. I saw this movie in Real 3D and it was amazing! Not to mention “Sam Worthington”! Most of my favorites are written, produced or directed by Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle are by far my favorite.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Q07Lt6qTDK0/Szbamgsg7bI/AAAAAAAAACg/dbIPQ08PEqA/s320/whms.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419759556733496754" />
Katz Deli is where Meg Ryan filmed her famous scene for When Harry Met Sally. I went with some of my close friends. I don’t remember anymore what I ate but it was something along the lines of a sandwich. I do remember that I wasn’t too pleased with food but it didn't matter much because I was so excited to be there and it was truly a dream come true for me. The script is clever and witty and truly a Nora Ephron classic! Anyone who knows me personally can tell you that I quote this movie all the time.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Q07Lt6qTDK0/Szba8uf085I/AAAAAAAAAC4/RMTprWxtg18/s320/whms4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419759938395501458" />

This is the beautiful arch located at Washington Square Park, also famous for the filming of When Harry Mete Sally. This is where Sally drops of Harry the first time they meet on their way from Chicago to New York City. LOL makes me smile everytime I see it.

If you haven't had a chance to see either of these films I highly recommend them. Truly chick flicks that capture that love that you know sadly only exists in movies. Nora always knows how to give you the right dose of laughter and deep sighs of hope that that special someone is truly out there.

Go Team Jacob!

I went to see New Moon a few days after it came out, trying to avoid crowds and teenagers which for this movie was unavoidable. The movie was awesome and much better than the first one. I left the movie motivated to read how the Saga ends. This movie gives us a better understanding about the story behind Carlisle’s coven, the ever growing love between Edward and Bella, and of coarse JACOB! <33333

New Moon, is all about getting to know Jacob. His love for Bella and a connection that forms between them. It brings yet another legend to life, as we learn about Jacobs not so human side. We also learn about the Volturi’s who are a coven of vampires made up of some of the most ancient and powerful vampires operating from Volterra, Italy.

I was excited and looking forward to seeing this part of the Saga especially because New Moon was my favorite book out of the 3 I read from the Twilight Saga. I stopped reading the Twilight Saga because I actually really do NOT like Bella. I find her to be extremely selfish and her character annoys me so much I had no desire to continue reading it. I took me about a year to return to the Saga. I am currently reading book four because after all, I have to know how it all ends!! If you have not read the books, I’m telling you the movies don’t even come close. Especially the first movie, which I didn’t like at all. It was very choppy and both movies leave out the intimate details. If you really want to know how much Edward loves Bella and how much she obsesses over him???…..Read the books! There is so much more emotion that goes on in the books that the big screen has failed to deliver. Stephanie Meyers is a great author.

In between Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, I read The Host also written by Meyers which is also amazing! Sorry ladies no Edward or vampires in that one. ^_^

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine -REM

Although, 2012 is not my kind of movie, I couldn't help my curiosity about this 2012 theory or my love for John Cusack. I have to say it didn’t make a 2012 believer out of me but I surely enjoyed the graphics and imagination of Hollywood. If indeed this is what our “End of Days” have in store for us, we need to pray or become European billionaires!!! In my opinion the storyline was weak (as expected) but My Johnny delivered a thrilling and entertaining role. Fun to watch but not worth waiting in line for 3 hours on opening night!!
I had the pleasure of watching this movie with my sister and her husband. We had every intention of watching a late movie but we didn’t anticipate a sold out show!! Our planned 10pm show turned into a bloodshot 12:30am bust. We were early, which only made our wait a total of 3 HOURS! ::Ugh:: I was exhausted before the show even started. Luckily, the movie had some eye opening scenes that kept me awake. To help pass the time, we went fast food hoping but when our gluttony had reached its limit, we retreated back to the theater on 34Th street. The actual waiting on line was the worst part. I squirmed for coffee and was highly fidgety, trying to ignoring the constant making out of about 4 couples as we waited on a tremendous line. Just to let you know it was way passed my bedtime and not my idea of fun by any stretch of the imagination!!I finally reached my bed at 5 o'clock this morning! Lol All in good fun and for the love of movies!

Despite the craziness of our night, all in all, if you enjoy apocalyptic disasters this is one to catch on the big screen!!!

<33

What's your dreams?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 237px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Q07Lt6qTDK0/SvbYK6Lp6CI/AAAAAAAAAA8/YqbAs36QCtU/s320/Pretty_woman.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5401742485005920290" />

I love movies simply because I love stories. Growing up my father always told me stories and although I couldn't always identify with all of them, I loved all of them because I learned more about him. They where like a portal to a different time- the 60's, 70's and so on... I love movies mostly for the messages they send, just like a great book, or great lyrics, what I like best about movies are their scripts.

Today I watched Pretty woman as I cleaned my room. I've seen some of my movies so many times I no longer need to actually watch them to know exactly what is happening on the screen. Some people clean to music...I clean to movies!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 174px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Q07Lt6qTDK0/SvbYSUNh3II/AAAAAAAAABE/MroDYigs3dc/s320/kit.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5401742612252187778" />
Anyway, what really gets me about this movie is not so much the Cinderella story between Edward and Vivian but Kit, Vivian's roommate, friend and "co-worker". Kit is a prostitute with no ambition for change in her life. I think about so many people that I know who are just like Kit, all they see are momentary fixes. They have no long term plans, no dreams or goals. I'll never understand people who don't dream at all, who don‘t want better for themselves. In the end of the movie there is a man walking in the street saying, "Welcome to Hollywood! What's your dream? Everybody comes here; this is Hollywood, land of dreams. Some dreams come true, some don't; but keep on dreamin' - this is Hollywood. Always time to dream, so keep on dreamin'."

I may not live in Hollywood but dreaming is not something I lack. It’s never too late to make changes in your life. I hope you have big dreams and that some how your finding a way to make them a reality. There is a big world out there with so much to offer!!

"If you've never stared off into the distance, then your life is a shame."
- Counting Crows
